On 21 February, the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation’s (CAREC) Guest Speaker Series convened a thought-provoking discussion on the challenges, opportunities, and global initiatives for women in the renewable energy sector. The session, hosted through the CAREC Women’s Empowerment Online Platform, featured Aruzhan Mominbayeva, CAREC Gender Climate Champion for Kazakhstan in 2024 and Project Manager for the Center of Green Technologies. In her inspiring talk, CAREC Gender Champion delved into the underlying causes of women’s underrepresentation in the renewable energy field and shared valuable insights on overcoming these barriers through the promotion of gender equality, inclusivity, and innovation. The virtual discussion saw active participation from nearly 70 attendees across CAREC countries, reflecting a shared commitment to empowering women and fostering a more inclusive energy future.
About the Speaker:
Aruzhan Mominbayeva is the CAREC Gender Climate Awardee for Kazakhstan in 2024 for the individual category. She currently works as a project manager at the Centre of Green Technologies. Aruzhan has been working in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) since she graduated in 2017. Her first projects were wind measurements using a 100m meteorological mast. For Aruzhan, it is important to present young female professionals in the RES sector and to inspire and motivate aspiring professionals and students to work and develop in the industry. She attracts female professionals to her projects and pays great attention to providing university internships to students of Nazarbayev University and Kazakh-British University.
